Whether you’re just starting your journey into conscious beauty or already well-versed, we don’t judge. From beginners to seasoned enthusiasts, we’re here to provide valuable insights and assistance every step of the way.

What Does Conscious Mean?

Conscious beauty is a holistic approach that goes beyond just the surface level of beauty products. We believe it contains a commitment to both environmental sustainability and social responsibility. Let’s break it down further:

  1. Environmental Sustainability: We believe that conscious beauty brands prioritize eco-friendly practices throughout their production process. This includes responsibly sourcing ingredients, reducing their carbon footprint in manufacturing and distribution, and implementing packaging solutions that minimize waste and are recyclable or biodegradable.
  2. Ethical Sourcing: We believe that conscious beauty brands often ensure that their ingredients are ethically sourced, which means they are obtained without exploiting laborers or harming local communities. This can involve fair trade practices, supporting small-scale farmers or cooperatives, and promoting biodiversity conservation.
  3. Cruelty-Free: We believe that conscious beauty brands refrain from testing their products on animals, instead opting for cruelty-free testing methods. This reflects a commitment to compassion and ethical treatment of all living beings.
  4. Social Responsibility: We believe that, beyond environmental concerns, conscious beauty brands also prioritize positively impacting society. This can involve initiatives such as supporting community development projects, empowering marginalized groups through employment opportunities or education, and donating a portion of profits to charitable causes.
  5. Transparency and Accountability: We believe that conscious beauty brands are transparent about their practices, ingredients, and supply chain, allowing consumers to make informed choices. They are also accountable for their actions and continuously strive to improve their sustainability and social impact.

Conscious BEAUTY MEANING Summary

We at Conscious Bunny believe that conscious beauty is about aligning personal care with sustainability, ethics, and social responsibility. Brands that are conscious, make a commitment to environmental sustainability, ethical sourcing, cruelty-free practices, social responsibility, transparency, and accountability.

How Does Conscious Bunny Define “Conscious”?

As you may know, there’s currently no legal definition of several terms in the beauty industry so it can mean different things to different people. When I use “conscious”, I define it as a commitment to environmental sustainability, ethical sourcing, cruelty-free practices, social responsibility, transparency, and accountability in beauty products and practices.

How Do You Recognize Conscious Brands?

Currently, there aren’t many well-known organizations or certifications that focus on a brand’s commitment to the environment or social impact. For example, you can’t turn to big names like PETA or Leaping Bunny to see anything about conscious brands. However, you may have noticed that some brands mention “B-Corp Certified.”

Well, B Corp Certification is a designation that a business is meeting high standards of verified performance, accountability, and transparency on factors from employee benefits and charitable giving to supply chain practices and input materials. Another way to find out is to shop at Ulta. Their “Conscious Beauty at Ulta Beauty®” program helps you identify brands and products with clean ingredients and cruelty-free, vegan, and sustainable packaging. It also highlights brands that Give Back to our communities and planet.

Conscious Consumerism

Conscious consumerism in beauty means a thoughtful and intentional approach to purchasing and using products. Lots of people purchase more beauty items than they can use up (I don’t judge; I’m aware that I have too many products, too).

Conscious consumerism revolves around consuming fewer items while prioritizing sustainability. This means opting for products that are not only durable but also crafted from reusable, recyclable, or biodegradable materials. It also means not being wasteful and buying products that you don’t need, ending up being thrown away half full.

Again, I’m not perfect either. It’s hard, especially since we have so many options available, and it seems like brands come out with new products every few weeks. However, even making some small adjustments, having a “no-buy” month, or donating makeup to friends/family or shelters makes a difference!
