Furthermore, products can avoid animal testing in China if they are manufactured in China or if their final assembly occurs in China. If manufactured outside of China, companies must obtain the proper safety certificates from their country of origin.

Their Almond Pure-Castile Soaps are not made with almond essential oil. Instead, they use “natural almond fragrance,” derived from the cassia plant. The scent is very similar to almonds but without any trace of nuts or cyanide.
According to the brand, their coconut oils are produced and bottled in nut-free facilities with equipment used exclusively for their coconut oils. Coconut is not a botanical nut; it is classified as a fruit, even though the Food and Drug Administration recognizes coconut as a tree nut.
While allergic reactions to coconut have been documented, most people who are allergic to tree nuts can safely eat coconut.
Is Dr. Bonner’s Soy-Free?
No, Dr. Bronner’s is not fully soy-free. According to the brand, most of Dr. Bronner’s products are gluten-free and do not contain soy, nuts, or any other common allergens.
However, there are a few exceptions: Their All-One Toothpaste and Organic Hand Sanitizers contain glycerin sourced from non-GMO soy. The brand purchases ingredients from growers who are all certified organic—no agrochemicals (chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or herbicides) are used, and soil fertility is replenished naturally using compost, manure, and mulching with crop residues.
And unlike palm oil grown on huge plantations like those in Indonesia, the production of their oils does not contribute to deforestation. Their palm oil comes from about 2,500 acres of smallholdings in Ghana that were established decades ago, and their palm kernel oil comes from various projects that support small, sustainable farmers.
Dr. Bronner’s uses 100% post-consumer recycled (PCR) polyethylene (PET) plastic bottles and jugs for a majority of their products. To pair with our PET bottles, they have launched our 32 oz. Pure-Castile Liquid Soap Refill Carton.
As of July 2023, their customers can purchase Dr. Bronner’s 32 oz. Pure-Castile Liquid Soap Refill Carton to refill their current Dr. Bronner’s PCR bottles, or other bottles they use, for cleaning and personal care.

Their products are certified by the USDA National Organic Program (NOP) to NSF/ANSI 305 by OTCO (Oregon Tilth Certified Organic), to the European organic and natural cosmetic standards BDIH by IONC (International Organic and Natural Cosmetics Corporation), and Nature by EcoControl.
Their main ingredients are certified fair trade under the Fair for Life Certification Programme, which verifies that ethical working conditions and fair prices are provided along their entire supply chain.
Dr. Bronner’s products do not contain any genetically modified ingredients/organisms (GMOs).
